physics imo

i reckon pre-hl2 when valve were excited about physics they were right to be, but the train got derailed by nvidia releasing physx for free, causing someone in charge at every studio for 20 years to go “we have physics at home”

if you go back and watch hl2’s 2003 demos, the ones that do cool stuff with physics that didn’t ship, that’s still cool shit and still nothing really does it. everything is either a physics sandbox or physics is cosmetic only. i think we’re gonna start coming out of it now that unreal is off physx and onto chaos (which seems to be getting solid), and unity people can theoretically, some of them, access havok, sort of.
